24 Oct 2026, Lucknow: The Indian Medical Association, Lucknow Branch, organised its Annual Celebration and Award Ceremony at IMA Bhawan, River Bank Colony. Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Keshav Prasad Maurya, attended as Chief Guest. Dr. Neeraj Bora, MLA, Lucknow North, and Past President of IMA Lucknow, graced the occasion as Guest of Honour.

The programme began with the General Body Meeting, followed by an award ceremony recognising nearly 90 doctors for their contributions to medical services, community welfare and the Association’s activities.

A Year of Medical Education, Community Service and Members’ Welfare

Presenting the annual activity report, Dr. Shweta Srivastava, Honorary Secretary, IMA Lucknow, outlined the branch’s initiatives during the year. Continuing medical education programmes, expert lectures and workshops provided opportunities for doctors to update their knowledge and clinical skills.

Rural health camps, cancer and disease awareness programmes, CPR training, blood donation activities and community health initiatives helped extend health information and services to the public.

She highlighted the Third State Working Committee Meeting of IMA Uttar Pradesh, held in Lucknow on 22 and 23 August 2026, as a major achievement of the session. The event brought doctors from across the state together for academic discussions and deliberations on organisational matters.

Sports competitions and the establishment of a gymnasium at IMA Bhawan encouraged doctors to prioritise their own health and well-being. The branch also worked to place concerns of the medical fraternity before public representatives and the appropriate authorities.

GSVM Medical College and LLR Hospital, organised activities under World Mental Health Week 2026.

Kanpur, October 5, 2026: The Department of Psychiatry, GSVM Medical College and LLR Hospital, Kanpur, is organizing a series of awareness and creative activities as part of World Mental Health Week 2026. This year’s World Mental Health Day theme, “Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change,” focuses on understanding real-life experiences related to mental health, raising awareness and reducing the stigma associated with mental illness.

As part of the week-long activities, a special programme was organized at the Department of Psychiatry on October 5, 2026. Dr. Vishal Sinha, President of the Central Psychiatric Society and Head of the Department at SNMC, Agra, participated as the guest speaker. He spoke about mental health, the social stigma associated with mental illnesses, and the importance of understanding patients’ lived experiences with sensitivity and empathy.

Various creative and awareness-based competitions were also organized for medical students and other participants, including skit, poster and slogan competitions. Through these activities, participants highlighted the importance of mental health awareness, empathy towards people living with mental illness, and the need to give mental health greater priority in society.

1st Oct 2026, Kanpur: Kanpur is set to host a major three-day scientific conference bringing together renowned pathologists, microbiologists, clinical scientists, researchers and laboratory experts from across the country. The 33rd Annual Conference of the Uttar Pradesh Chapter of the Indian Association of Pathologists and Microbiologists (IAPM), UPPATHCON 2026, will be held from October 2 to 4, 2026, at CSJM University, Kanpur, and will be hosted by the Department of Lab Sciences, Regency Hospital Limited.

Based on the theme “Decoding Diseases: Clues to Conclusions,” the conference will focus on modern diagnostic medicine, emerging technologies, research and the future of pathology and microbiology. The event is expected to provide a platform for scientific exchange, dissemination of research, continuing medical education and practical learning.

According to Dr. Atul Kapoor, CMD, Regency Hospital and Patron of the Organising Committee, the conference aims to strengthen the link between laboratory diagnosis and clinical decision-making. 1 Oct 2026, Kanpur: The prestigious 16th 'Cawnpore Arthroplasty Course-2026', organized by the U.P. Arthroplasty Society, is set to commence tomorrow, October 2, at Hotel Ramada in Lucknow. The theme for this year's three-day scientific conference, which will run from October 2 to 4, 2026, is "Precision in Arthroplasty: The Next Era". Orthopaedic surgeons from across the country will brainstorm on the latest techniques in joint replacement at this conference.

Addressing the press conference, all the key office bearers of the organizing committee highlighted the features of the upcoming conference:

Chairman of the Scientific Committee, Dr. A.S. Prasad stated, "We started this course in 2005 to teach the nuances of joint replacement (arthroplasty) to young doctors of North and Central India. Today, it has become India's longest-running training course. Although the name of this course is associated with Kanpur, practical constraints such as the city's poor traffic conditions and the Macrobot Hospital coming under government control are now creating hurdles. For all these reasons, we have been organizing this program at the Ramada in Lucknow for the last four years. This course has helped thousands of orthopaedic surgeons understand joint replacement."

Organizing Chairman, Dr. Anand Nigam said, "This year's scientific program has been specially designed to meet the growing demands of modern orthopaedic surgery. We are providing a platform for surgeons where they can learn new techniques through live surgeries and interactive discussions."

Suicide Prevention Awareness Programme Held at GSVM Medical College

10 Sep 2026, Kanpur: On the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day, the Department of Psychiatry, GSVM Medical College, Kanpur, organized an awareness programme to promote suicide prevention and mental health awareness among students.

According to the latest NCRB ADSI 2023 report, India recorded 1,71,418 suicides in 2023, compared with 1,70,924 in 2022. Family problems (31.9%) and illness (19%) were among the major reported factors. The programme emphasized that suicide is usually the result of multiple biological, psychological and social factors rather than a single cause.

Special attention was drawn to adolescents and young people. NCRB data recorded 10,785 suicides among children below 18 years in 2023. Academic pressure, examination failure, family and relationship problems, bullying, social isolation and mental health difficulties were highlighted as possible risk factors.

Dr. Ganesh Shankar, the guest speaker, discussed suicide risk factors, warning signs and the importance of seeking timely professional help. Participants were advised to take warning signs seriously, listen without judgment, ask directly about suicidal thoughts, avoid leaving a person in crisis alone and seek immediate professional assistance.

An essay competition was organized for students. Dr. Ariba Sarfaraz (MBBS 2022 Q2 Batch) secured first place, Priyam Shukla of L.L.R. College of Nursing stood second, and Vishakha of G.S.V.M. College of Nursing secured third place. A street play was also presented to spread awareness about suicide prevention and mental health.

Principal Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Kala, Vice-Principal Dr. Richa and SIC Dr. Saurabh were present on the occasion. They stressed the need to reduce stigma surrounding mental health and ensure timely medical support for those in distress.

Prof. (Dr.) Dhananjay Chaudhary, Head of the Department of Psychiatry, said that suicide is a serious but preventable public health problem and emphasized the importance of listening to people expressing suicidal thoughts and connecting them with mental health professionals at the earliest.

Faculty members and residents of the Department of Psychiatry actively contributed to the programme.

The programme concluded with the message that suicide prevention is a collective responsibility, requiring sensitive communication, early identification, appropriate treatment and support from family and society. ISOPARB Kanpur organized a CME on adolescent vaccination

05 Sep 2026, Kanpur : ISOPARB Kanpur Society organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on adolescent vaccination at Hotel Royal Cliff, Kanpur. Dr. Meera Abhyhotri, Chief Patron of ISOPARB Kanpur Society, highlighted the importance of vaccination during adolescence and said that the essential vaccines administered at this age not only protect against serious diseases in the future but also help lay the foundation for better reproductive health.

Dr. Neelam Mishra, President of ISOPARB Kanpur Society and a senior gynaecologist, informed the participants about the essential vaccines recommended for adolescents. She explained that the HPV vaccine plays an important role in preventing cervical cancer, while the MMR vaccine provides protection against rubella and helps reduce the risk of congenital abnormalities and reproductive complications caused by rubella infection during pregnancy.

Dr. Kiran Sinha, Secretary of ISOPARB Kanpur Society, said that the Tdap vaccine provides protection against tetanus, diphtheria and whooping cough. In addition, depending on the need and medical advice, adolescents may also be administered vaccines against influenza, typhoid and hepatitis-B.

Dr. Reshma Nigam, Treasurer of ISOPARB Kanpur Society, said, “Vaccination during adolescence is the foundation for future reproductive health and cancer prevention. Parents should remain aware of their children's vaccination requirements and ensure that essential vaccines are administered on time as per medical advice.”

During the programme, senior paediatrician Dr. Vivek Saxena spoke about the importance of Tdap vaccination during pregnancy. He explained that Tdap vaccination is recommended for every pregnancy between 27 and 36 weeks. The vaccine protects the mother against tetanus, diphtheria and whooping cough and also plays an important role in providing early protection to the newborn against whooping cough.

Dr. Saxena further explained that antibodies produced in the mother during pregnancy cross the placenta and reach the baby, providing protection against whooping cough during the initial months after birth. He emphasized that since whooping cough can become a serious illness in newborns, creating awareness about vaccination during pregnancy is extremely important.

During the CME, doctors discussed the role of vaccination in adolescent and maternal immunization, prevention of infections, and prevention of serious health problems in the future. The programme aimed to increase awareness among doctors and the general public regarding vaccination and to emphasize the importance of timely immunization.

State Working Committee Meeting from 9:00 AM on August 23

Special Screening of “Silent Crimes” Raises Awareness About Cybercrime

19 Aug 2026, Kanpur: A special screening of the short film “Silent Crimes” was organized with the objective of creating public awareness about the growing threat of cybercrime. The event was jointly organized by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Kanpur Branch, and the Kanpur Police Commissionerate, with the support of Rotary Club Surya, Kanpur.

Produced by the Kanpur Police Commissionerate, the approximately 40-minute film highlights various methods of cyber fraud, the modus operandi of cybercriminals, and ways to safely use digital platforms. The film conveys a clear message that awareness and vigilance are the most effective weapons against cybercrime.

Renowned actor Annu Kapoor plays the lead role of Cyber Crime Inspector Kartar Singh, while ACP Anand Ojha portrays ACP Angad Verma. Through the film, viewers are shown how the nature of crime has evolved in the digital age, with cybercriminals increasingly using mobile phones, the internet, and digital platforms to target unsuspecting citizens.

The programme was attended by Kanpur Police Commissioner Shri Raghubir Lal, IMA Kanpur President Dr. Anurag Mehrotra, Honorary Secretary Dr. (Prof.) Shalini Mohan, Rotary Club Surya Kanpur President Dr. Rotarian Prashant Gupta, and Secretary Dr. Kunal Sahay, along with several other dignitaries and members.

Speaking on the occasion, the guests emphasized that in the digital age, cybersecurity is the responsibility of every citizen. People should avoid clicking on unknown or suspicious links, never share OTPs or confidential banking information, remain cautious of suspicious calls and messages, and immediately report any incident of cyber fraud to the appropriate authorities.

The joint initiative by IMA Kanpur, the Kanpur Police Commissionerate, and Rotary Club Surya is an important and commendable effort towards strengthening public awareness about cybercrime and making society safer in the digital environment.

ISOPARB Kanpur Holds Scientific Seminar on Severe Anaemia and Blood Transfusion

8th Aug 2026, Kanpur: The ISOPARB Society, Kanpur, organized a scientific seminar on “Severe Anaemia and Blood Transfusion” on Saturday at Hotel Royal Cliff. The programme brought together senior doctors and healthcare experts from the city, who shared their views on important aspects of anaemia and blood transfusion.

Senior Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Dr. Neelam Mishra, President of ISOPARB Society Kanpur, highlighted the prevalence of anaemia, stating that overall anaemia affects nearly 73% of the population, including 65% of pregnant women, 53% of adolescents and a significant number of women. She also explained the appropriate approach to blood transfusion in different situations, including pregnancy, normal delivery and caesarean section.

In the first scientific session, Dr. Manisha Agarwal delivered a detailed lecture on “Overview of Anaemia and Focus on Severe Anaemia.” She discussed the causes and increasing impact of anaemia, early diagnosis, modern investigation and treatment methods, as well as effective management of severe anaemia. She emphasized that timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment can help prevent serious complications.

The second scientific session featured Dr. Priyanka Verma, who spoke on “Blood Transfusion Protocol.” She explained the safe and scientific process of blood transfusion, necessary precautions, appropriate patient selection, ensuring the quality of blood, and the importance of following national and international transfusion guidelines.

During the programme, the experts also responded to questions from participating doctors and shared the latest medical updates related to anaemia and blood transfusion. The seminar aimed to keep healthcare professionals updated with current scientific knowledge and promote safe, effective and quality treatment for patients.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks. Chief Patron Dr. Meera Agnihotri, President Dr. Neelam Mishra, Secretary Dr. Kiran Sinha, along with Dr. Kamal Dhan, Dr. Kiran Pandey, Dr. Sangeeta Arya, Dr. Reshma Nigam, Dr. Reena Mattu, Dr. Sheila Sharma, Dr. Reeta Mittal, Dr. Renu Gupta, Dr. Kalpana Dixit, Dr. Kanchan Sharma and around 80 doctors attended the programme.
