ISOPARB Kanpur organized a CME on adolescent vaccination
05 Sep 2026, Kanpur : ISOPARB Kanpur Society organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on adolescent vaccination at Hotel Royal Cliff, Kanpur. Dr. Meera Abhyhotri, Chief Patron of ISOPARB Kanpur Society, highlighted the importance of vaccination during adolescence and said that the essential vaccines administered at this age not only protect against serious diseases in the future but also help lay the foundation for better reproductive health.
Dr. Neelam Mishra, President of ISOPARB Kanpur Society and a senior gynaecologist, informed the participants about the essential vaccines recommended for adolescents. She explained that the HPV vaccine plays an important role in preventing cervical cancer, while the MMR vaccine provides protection against rubella and helps reduce the risk of congenital abnormalities and reproductive complications caused by rubella infection during pregnancy.
Dr. Kiran Sinha, Secretary of ISOPARB Kanpur Society, said that the Tdap vaccine provides protection against tetanus, diphtheria and whooping cough. In addition, depending on the need and medical advice, adolescents may also be administered vaccines against influenza, typhoid and hepatitis-B.
Dr. Reshma Nigam, Treasurer of ISOPARB Kanpur Society, said, “Vaccination during adolescence is the foundation for future reproductive health and cancer prevention. Parents should remain aware of their children's vaccination requirements and ensure that essential vaccines are administered on time as per medical advice.”
During the programme, senior paediatrician Dr. Vivek Saxena spoke about the importance of Tdap vaccination during pregnancy. He explained that Tdap vaccination is recommended for every pregnancy between 27 and 36 weeks. The vaccine protects the mother against tetanus, diphtheria and whooping cough and also plays an important role in providing early protection to the newborn against whooping cough.
Dr. Saxena further explained that antibodies produced in the mother during pregnancy cross the placenta and reach the baby, providing protection against whooping cough during the initial months after birth. He emphasized that since whooping cough can become a serious illness in newborns, creating awareness about vaccination during pregnancy is extremely important.
During the CME, doctors discussed the role of vaccination in adolescent and maternal immunization, prevention of infections, and prevention of serious health problems in the future. The programme aimed to increase awareness among doctors and the general public regarding vaccination and to emphasize the importance of timely immunization.
